A variety of scholarships, awards and bursaries are available to new and returning School of Nutrition students.
The School of Nutrition Academic Achievement Award
1 award up to $1,500
Deadline: September 19, 2014
This award was established to provide financial assistance and to recognize the academic achievement of a full-time student enrolled in the School of Nutrition. Open to full-time School of Nutrition Student who is an Ontario resident that demonstrates financial need and demonstrates overall excellence in their studies with a GPA of 3.33 or higher with a clear academic standing; Must be a Canadian Citizen, a Permanent Resident or a Protected Person.
Brenda Ball Memorial Award
1 award up to $1,300
Deadline: September 19, 2014
Must be a full-time student in Year 3 or 4 of the Nutrition and Food program; high academic achievement in previous academic year; demonstrated financial need; and living away from home; Preference will be given to a student whose home residence is in Ottawa (failing that, Eastern Ontario, example east of Kingston).
Carol Taylor Memorial Award
1 award up to $1,900
Deadline: September 19, 2014
This award may be shared by two or more students.
Must be full-time student in Year 4 of the Nutrition and Food program; demonstrated financial need and strong academic potential; Preference will be given to students who live away from home.
Dorotea Landau Memorial Award
1 award up to $750
Deadline: September 19, 2014
Must be a full-time student enrolled in their 3rd or 4th year in the Nutrition and Food program with a CGPA of 2.75 or better and be in clear academic standing.
Elizabeth Chant Robertson Award
1 award up to $500
Deadline: September 19, 2014
Must be a full-time student in their final year of the Nutrition and Food program; A cover letter, an essay or course assignment that is in keeping with both the mission of the School of Nutrition – to prepare practitioners who have the knowledge, dispositions, and skills to create inclusive environments that optimize heath and social well-being – and the work and achievement of Dr. Elizabeth Chant Robertson whose early book on nutrition was one of the first creative and reliable sources of nutrition information for Canadians.
May Maskow Awards
6 award up to $3,500 each

Open to Nutrition and Food students entering 2nd year who demonstrate financial need; Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; One to two page letter describing how they have met the award criteria and how the Nutrition program fits with the applicant’s own interests and aspirations; Resume; Copy of transcript (min CGPA 3.0).
Anne Selby Awards
6 award up to $3,500 each

Open to Nutrition and Food students entering 4th year who demonstrates financial need; Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; One to two page letter describing how the applicant has met the award criteria and how the Nutrition program fits with the applicant’s own interests and aspirations; Resume; Copy of transcript (min CGPA 3.0).
Rheta Rosen Incentive Award
1 award up to $1,045

Open to a full-time student in Year 3 or Year 4 of the Nutrition and Food program who is a resident of Ontario with family responsibilities with a satisfactory academic performance in previous academic year; Demonstrated financial need and commitment to working in a community-based setting; One to two page letter describing how the applicant meets the award criteria & describing his or her professional goals.
Jennifer Welsh Food Security Award
1 award up to $1,300
Deadline: September 19, 2014
Awarded to one undergraduate student in the School of Nutrition who embodies the values of social justice, creative change and an orientation to food systems. Applicants will have demonstrated financial need and have attained high academic excellence with a clear academic standing. Students will submit a letter explaining how the student embodies the values of social justice, creative change and an orientation to food systems; a resume.
Mikey Network Awards
2 awards up to $1,500
Deadline: September 19, 2014
Open to all Ontario resident Nutrition students who demonstrate financial need; Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; Must have achieved a minimum 80% overall average in 6 Grade 12 U/M credits (if candidate is entering first year) or a minimum CGPA of 3.50 (if candidate is beyond the first year); Students may be self-nominated or be nominated by their peers, staff or faculty members in the School of Nutrition; Applicants/nominator shall write a letter to explain how the student meets the Award criteria including evidence of the applicant’s commitment to the promotion of nutrition to prevent chronic disease; Letter of Support.
Canadian Institute of Food Science & Technology – Ontario Section Awards (Junior Award)
1 award up to $1,000

Awarded to a student who has completed the course FND 100 in Winter 2014. To qualify students must be members of CIFST. Students will submit a 500 word statement letter demonstrating their interest & career goals in the food industry & food science field; a 250 word report describing CIFST & the benefits of being a member; have achieved a min CGPA of 3.0; students with a CGPA of less than 3.00 may apply for the award but must address the issue of their academic performance in their application package; a resume.
Canadian Institute of Food Science & Technology – Ontario Section Awards (Senior Award)
2 awards up to $2,000 each
Deadline: September 19, 2014
Awarded to students who have completed the course FND 300, FND 301 (or equivalent work experience) and FNR 201. To qualify students must be members of CIFST. Students will submit a 500 word statement letter demonstrating their interest & career goals in the food industry & food science field; a 250 word report describing CIFST & the benefits of being a member; have achieved a min CGPA of 3.0; students with a CGPA of less than 3.00 may apply for the award but must address the issue of their academic performance in their application package; a resume.
