The following are scholarships and awards for students enrolling in Alberta college or university this year:
Academic Alexander Rutherford High School Achievement Scholarship
Over 13,000 scholarships are available to recognize and reward academic achievement at the high school level and encourage students to pursue post-secondary studies. The scholarship has a value of up to $2,500. Scholarships are awarded to students achieving a minimum average of 75.0 percent in five designated courses in at least one grade: Grade 10, 11, or 12. The minimum average, value of the award, and courses that can be used depend on the year the student graduated from high school. Recipients must be enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program or be an apprenticeship student.
There is no application deadline.
Grant MacEwan United World College Scholarship
Eight scholarships are awarded for two years of study at a United World College. These awards are based on academic ability, leadership, community service, references and an interview. Applicants must be in the process of completing Grade 11.

China-Alberta Award for Excellence in Chinese One award of $500 to a student who has demonstrated excellence in a high school Chinese language and culture program. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Tiessen Foundation Broadcast Scholarship
One scholarship of $750 is available to students who have completed high school in Alberta and will be pursuing post-secondary studies at any recognized educational institution in Canada that offers a degree or diploma in broadcasting: TV, radio, or broadcast engineering. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and a 750 word essay.

Anna and John Kolesar Memorial Scholarship
One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to the applicant with the highest average in three designated Grade 12 subjects. Applicants must be planning to enroll in an Education program and be from a family where neither parent has a university degree.

Keyera Energy – Peter J. Renton Memorial Scholarship
Up to $6,000 is available ($3,000 for first year, $3,000 for second year) to high school students who have completed the requirements for high school graduation in Alberta. Applicants must be planning to enroll full-time in an accredited Alberta post-secondary institution in a field of study related to the oil and gas industry.

Adult High School Equivalency Scholarship
200 scholarships of $500 each are available to students who have been out of high school for three years and have completed an upgrading program at an eligible school in Alberta. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement. Recipients must be continuing their studies full-time in a post-secondary program. Recipients are nominated by the educational institution where they completed their upgrading program.

Jo-Ann Koch ABC Society Awards
Two awards of $500 are available to Grade 12 high school graduates: one award for a student graduating from Westmount Charter School and one award available to a graduating student from any publicly funded Alberta high school. Applicants must meet the criteria for Giftedness as determined by their school jurisdiction and be planning on pursuing post-secondary studies.

Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) Scholarship
Up to 500 awards of $1,000 each are available to high school graduates who have completed the RAP program and are continuing in an approved regular apprenticeship program. Recipients are chosen on the basis of academic merit, employer recommendation, a recommendation letter from a high school teacher or counsellor and a personal essay.

Athletics Earl and Countess of Wessex – 2001 World Championships in Athletics Scholarship
This scholarship was created to commemorate the visit of the Earl and Countess of Wessex to the 8th International Amateur Athletics Federation World Championships in Athletics held in Edmonton in August of 2001. The top male and female Grade 12 student in track and field will each receive a $3,000 award. Applicants must meet an academic standard and be planning to attend full-time postsecondary studies at the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary or the University of Lethbridge. Recipients will be selected based on their athletic accomplishments.

Citizenship Premier’s Citizenship Award
This scholarship was created to recognize students graduating from high school who have supported and contributed to Alberta communities through public service and voluntary endeavours. Recipients receive a plaque. One plaque is available for each high school in Alberta.

Queen’s Golden Jubilee Citizenship Medal To commemorate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002, eight outstanding recipients of the Premier’s Citizenship Award will receive a Queen’s Golden Jubilee Citizenship Medal, a letter of commendation from the Lieutenant Governor, and a $5,000 award.

Alberta Centennial Award
This award was established to commemorate the Province of Alberta’s Centennial. Twenty five awards of $2,005 each are available to Alberta students entering any level of postsecondary study at any university, college, technical institute or apprenticeship program in Canada. Scholarship recipients are selected from nominations received for the Premier’s Citizenship Award. Students cannot receive both the Alberta Centennial Scholarship and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Citizenship Medal.

Janet and Horace Allen Scholarship
One scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded to the top Science graduate from Crowsnest Pass High School who has enrolled full-time in a post-secondary institution. Application forms are available from the school counsellor.

Maria Sava Polish Heritage Awards and Scholarships
To recognize the excellence of students from the Jan Pawel II Polish Bilingual Program of Edmonton Catholic Schools. Three scholarships and two awards of $1,000 each are available to students who have taken the Jan Pawel II Polish Bilingual Program in Grades 7, 8, and 9, and pursue post-secondary studies in any program of study.

Dr. Robert and Anna Shaw Scholarship Three awards of $500 each are available to students graduating from Sexsmith Secondary School who are pursuing post-secondary studies. Awards are based on academic merit and leadership accomplishments.

Dr. Robert Norman Shaw Scholarship
One scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded to a student graduating from Sexsmith Secondary School and pursuing post-secondary studies in a health-related field. Awarded on the basis of achieving the highest average on five Grade 12 (level 30) subjects: English or Français, Mathematics, Social Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Science.

Helen and George Kilik Scholarship
One scholarship of $1,000 is available to a student from Olds High School who is in financial need, has been involved in extracurricular activities, and has shown academic success, particularly in Mathematics and Science. Applicants should be planning to pursue full-time post-secondary studies.The recipient is chosen by a selection committee at Olds High School.
