Project management professionals have the knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to successfully manage projects for a wide range of industries. To remain competitive in a global economy, organizations are using project management expertise to shorten product development cycles; respond quickly and effectively to opportunities or threats; re-evaluate their processes; capitalize on technical knowledge within the organization; and control the bottom-line. Project management is one of the top skill sets sought by organizations to ensure their objectives are met on time and on budget. It is projected that by 2027, the number of opportunities will exceed the number of available candidates for project management roles. Students start with basics and through a rigorous two-year program supported by experienced teachers, graduate with real, applicable project experience under their belts.

It will provide you with the knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to successfully manage projects from a wide array of industries. Students who have experience and are seasoned professionals in the area of project management will have the opportunity to learn new skills and add to their credentials in order to advance their career. In addition, students will have several opportunities to gain real-world experience through case study analysis and a capstone project.

Individuals with these specialized skills are becoming increasingly important in today’s economy. Graduates will be prepared to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control a project to ensure its success.
Project managers are key employees in many organizations, managing a wide array of projects in almost every major industry. This two-year program immerses you in the Canadian business context, providing you with the essential foundations to cultivate the following skills:
- Managing the scope, cost, timing and quality of a project.
- Aligning a project to an organization’s strategic plans and goals.
- Identifying project goals, constraints, deliverables, performance criteria, control needs and resource requirements in consultation with stakeholders.
- Implementing Project Management Institute knowledge around processes, lifecycle phases and concepts and tools and techniques.
- Using technology for communication, collaboration, information management and decision support.
- Applying appropriate legal and ethical standards.

ACCREDITATIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS
As part of their enrolment in this program, each student will be eligible to receive a one-year student membership to the Project Management Institute (PMI®) and to the local chapter PMI-DHC. Registration will occur during the first weeks of the program, allowing access to publications and services to support studies.
First-year students enrolled in a diploma program or select graduate certificate program through the Faculty of Business will receive a membership to all eight of Durham Region’s Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade for the duration of their studies, plus an additional year following graduation. As one of the only colleges in Ontario with this offering, DC is proud to provide students with access to local businesses at a regional level.

Admission Requirements
- Diploma or degree (business, information technology, or technology studies recommended)
- Proof of English language proficiency required
OR
- A minimum of three years of related industry experience detailed in a professional resumé with a letter of intent may be considered
- Proof of English language proficiency required
Applicants whose first language is not English or who are internationally educated in a non‐English speaking country must meet Durham College’s English Language Proficiency Policy.
